A Day in the Life
- Field Coordination and Oversight: Support aerial and underground fiber construction projects by coordinating contractors, inspecting work for safety and quality, and ensuring compliance with construction standards. Manage redlines, GIS updates, and as-built documentation to keep broadband data accurate and up to date.
- Project Scheduling and Communication: Coordinate day-to-day activities between ECE departments, contractors, developers, and local officials. Schedule and track project timelines to keep work progressing efficiently and align with ECE goals.
- Design and Mapping Support: Assist with the design and staking of fiber systems using mapping software and GPS tools. Identify and stake changes for make-ready and vegetation management. Prepare construction staking sheets, cost estimates, and relocation plans for road or system improvement projects.
- Member and Contractor Relations: Serve as a liaison with members, property owners, and contractors to communicate project details, secure access, and ensure a positive experience.
- Collaboration and Documentation: Work with the Broadband Engineering Supervisor, GIS Analyst, Operations, and other departments to coordinate design and construction projects, maintain records, and support ongoing network reliability.
What You’ll Need
- Education & Experience: A two-year engineering-related technical degree, plus at least five years of fiber construction, installation, design, project management, and/or construction experience; or a combination of education and experience.
- Credentials: Valid Driver’s License and Notary Public Commission or the ability to obtain within one year.
- Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects, manage contractors, and ensure quality results. Proficient with Microsoft 365, GIS systems, staking software, and GPS equipment. Knowledge of fiber design principles, construction standards, and connectivity equipment, including OTDRs, locators, optical power meters, and laser light sources. Familiar with Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and The National Electric Safety Code(NESC) guidelines, permitting processes, and right-of-way coordination.
Additional Details
- Schedule: Onsite, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., based at the Braham, MN Operations North building. Travel within ECE’s service area is required.
- Hybrid Option: This position offers a hybrid work arrangement following an initial training period.
