Cost Accountant
The Cost Accountant is responsible for accurately accounting and reporting for the total costs of the electric utility plant constructed and their related records required by the USDA-Rural Utilities Services (RUS). This position requires accounting for the overall activity of the work order process and asset management, assuring the integrity and timeliness of the work order process for the completion of required loan documents, ensuring internal and external compliance with cooperative policies and regulatory agencies. This is an integral cross departmental position, working with Operations and Engineering. A boundless desire to provide accurate and up-to-date records is imperative in this role.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Completes all functions as related to the work order application, including but not limited to: daily processing of work orders, verifying material charges, labor hours, transportation costs, contract labor costs, and continuing property records, balancing application records to the general ledger, calculating and updating standard record unit costs, and calculating and accumulating work orders costs using prescribed Rural Utilities Services (RUS) methods.
- Ensure that all accounting records are processed timely and accurately.
- Responsible for Plant Asset accounting and reconciliation including Special Equipment along with the annual calculation for installation costs, General Plant, and the Depreciation Process.
- Complete all month-end and year-end reporting for fixed assets deprecation, material inventory, work orders, and fleet management (back-up). Prepare RUS loan draw request form and maintain the RUS loan data sheet.
- Input accounts payable invoices related to fixed assets, material, work orders, and special equipment, review invoices for accuracy and general ledger coding.
- Assist as a backup to the accounts payable by inputting all invoices and processing check runs.
- Oversees and assists with monthly cycle counts and physical inventories, reconciles discrepancies with the warehouse staff to ensure accurate accounting for all MVEC material. Performs monthly reconciliation and close.
- Provide other accounting or office services as requested, including but not limited to: additional statistical month-end and year-end reporting, data for development of a construction work plan, and providing required information for auditors.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree in accounting or related field and 2+ years of related experience OR bachelor’s degree in accounting or related.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to keep privileged information confidential
- Aptitude for setting priorities while efficiently performing duties and creating an atmosphere that reflects professionalism, consistent with the objectives of the cooperative
- Demonstrate initiative and motivation to organize and complete tasks and meet deadlines, acting independently and with minimum supervision and direction, and interacts with persons at all levels
- Ability to accomplish/complete a task while demonstrating a thorough concern for all the areas involved, no matter how small
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the Uniform System of Accounts (RUS)

Schedule/Location:
On-site at our office located in Jordan, MN.
Tentative start date of January 2026.
Pay and Benefits:
Starting Pay: $27.60 - $30.36/hr ($57,420 - $63,162/annually)
