Hiring Salary for Level I: $75,500-113,300
Hiring Salary for Level II: $99,900-149,900
Compensation is determined by a combination of factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, and certifications. The actual offer may vary, reflecting the candidate's unique blend of experience, educational background, and skill level.
Under the direction and close supervision of the Supervisor, Performance Engineering & QA, the Performance Engineer I will provide analytical and logistic support to develop and maintain system wide programs and activities to improve power production performance and achieve operational excellence. Assist in the development of programs that track improved plant performance and initiate actions focused on heat rate training and awareness
The Impact You'll Make In This Role:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist with developing and maintaining computer based performance models for each generating unit, which will guide the operations in adjusting process variables within their control to attain best possible power production efficiencies.
2. Coordinate periodic testing to develop and update baseline data for all units for tracking of component heat balance and net station heat rate.
3. Assist in the development of procedures and institutional structures for tracking performance goals and objectives.
4. Assist in performing thermodynamic analysis of power plant cycles/equipment using computer-modeling techniques where applicable.
5. Assist the initiating, development, and implementation of plant performance related capital and maintenance projects & initiatives.
6. Publish reports of performance test results to provide information contributing to improved practices for plant operations and maintenance.
7. Coordinate with senior plant management to develop proficiency of plant personnel responsible for testing.
8. Assist the routine reporting of power plant performance and event data for various purposes both within and external to Dairyland Power Cooperative (i.e. GADs, EIA, MISO, NERC, etc.).
9. As directed, assist power plant staff with performance related topics.
10. Consult with other departments, as required, on performance related topics.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Experience and Expertise:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Level I:
Education & Experience: B.S. Degree in mechanical, electrical, physical science or equivalent. Entry level, with at least participation in a utility cooperative education program. Without cooperative education program, one (1) year experience in power plant performance monitoring.
Level II:
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, physical science or equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years of power plant performance related experience.
Skills: Computer literacy essential (prefer Excel & Access).
Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver’s License. Possess or be qualified to attain Professional Engineering Registration.
Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), pushing/pulling, crawling, twisting upper body, climbing hand-over-hand, bending and reaching, Operate/manipulate computer, testing equipment, and hand tools.
Environmental Demands: Works indoors and outdoors, frequently in extreme heat, noise, and mechanical hazards. Occasionally works in extreme cold, at heights, and around explosive, electrical, fume/odor, dust, radiation, radioactive contamination, and chemical hazards. Work alongside or near heavy construction equipment, high speed rotating machinery, high voltage, high amperage electrical equipment, and high pressure/temperature equipment systems and components.
